THE KNITTER'S COMPANION
DELUXE EDITION
BY
VICKI SQUARE
This month I was honored to receive a copy of The Knitter's Companion Deluxe Edition by Vicki Square (ISBN 978-1-59668-314-3) from Interweave Press. This is a wonderful standby that most of us know and carry around in our knitting bag for quick reference. The newest version has updated information that gives you more options for casting on and binding off. These methods can make a project even more beautiful with finishing specific for the use of the item. There are more detail methods that you've always wondered how to accomplish. Now you can add them to your own repertoire.
The most exciting addition is the inclusion of two DVDs that contain over 5 hours of visual information. This is fantastic for the person who learns more effectively by watching the hand movements of the teacher and reinforces the written text. That's more than 80 demos and techniques available! I take my laptop with me when I can and having this extra resource is essential to me. (I'm imagining one day when books come with a small SD card that can be popped into your smart phone!)
This book is still available in the spiral bound format that you can lay out flat in front of you while you work. The pages are thick which I think is great for those of us that like to sit outside and work. That light breeze won't be turning your pages while you are trying out a technique.
This book is touted as a perfect reference guide, but I think it has evolved into a wonderful beginners teaching tool. It is ready when you are and portable to boot. My daughter lives 3 hours from me and I show her basics when she comes to visit. Having this book would enable her to go back and look at what I showed her when she has time between a full load of college classes and a full time job.
